Pre-Op & Post-Op Diet
Breakfast Options
Chocolate Protein Pancakes
Consider also for pre-op diet during solid-food stage as a fun breakfast idea. While your family is enjoying traditional pancakes high in carbs, don’t feel left out with this healthy option rich in protein!
Consider for:
- Post-op diet, stage 3, pureed foods (17 to 30 days post-op)
- Pre-op diet (solid food stage)
Servings: 2 medium-size pancakes
For the pre-op diet: entire recipe makes 18 % of your daily caloric intake. (Based on 1,200 Cals per day)
For the post-op diet: entire recipe makes 36.8% – 30.6% of your daily caloric intake. (Based on 500 – 600 Cals per day)
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp of unsweetened almond milk
- 4 egg whites, 130g
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp of baking soda
- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, approximately 33g of powder (We love Isopure zero carbs/zero fat or GenePro, but you can use your favorite one)
- Optional only if on a pre-op diet: ½ cup of blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries as a healthy topping.
Directions
- Whisk protein powder, salt, baking soda, almond milk, and egg whites until you have a smooth, slightly running pancake batter.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or pancake pan to low-medium.
- Make pancakes by adding half of the batter to the skillet. Cook for 1-3 minutes before flipping the pancake over. Pancakes are ready to flip as soon as you can slide the spatula underneath. They will bubble a bit less than regular pancakes.
- Enjoy! 😊
Extra: if you are on a pre-op diet, feel free to add ½ cup of healthy fruit topping such as blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries!
