The New City Hospital is an absolute state-of-the-art full-service hospital. It is rightfully ranked as the most modern and luxurious facility not only in Tijuana but in the entire Mexico. New City features 5 fully-equipped ICU (Intensive Care Units), 9 IMCU (Intermediate Care Units), 7 operation rooms, ER, on-site lab, CT scan, MRI, and many other medical services.

Built in 2022, it is located right at the US-Mexico border (see the address and contact information below), sharing the same building complex with the Quartz Hotel (recovery accommodations for our patients). Our drivers take less than 45 minutes to arrive from the San Diego airport (California). You do not need to leave the premises throughout your stay until you are ready to go home.

Medical Care 24/7

The New City Hospital as a full-service facility provides medical care 24/7. Nurses and doctors closely monitor your health status day and night. Fully equipped intensive care units add to the safety and tranquility of our patients. The hospital has direct access to the blood bank, where blood undergoes the same strict control standards as in the US. CT scan, lab, ultrasound, MRI, endoscopy, mammography, bone density test, and many other medical services are available on-site.

Fully Equipped Operation Rooms

New City Hospital features seven operating rooms with eight recovery beds. The equipment includes high-tech intermittent pneumatic compression boots (therapeutic devices used to improve venous circulation during surgery to prevent deep vein postoperative thrombosis), advanced diagnostic equipment including endoscopy, X-ray, CT scan, and an ultrasound. All this ensures that bariatric patients will have a thorough radiology post-op checkup for any staple line disruptions.

We schedule surgeries daily except Sundays.

On-Site Bilingual Facilitators 24/7

Go Light Bariatrics is the only weight loss surgery facilitating company in Tijuana that provides English speaking on-site facilitators 24/7. Our goal is to assist and advocate for our patients and their family members. Our responsibilities include assistance to patients for their non-medical needs, including English-Spanish interpretation in case of a language barrier. The facilitators will help your companion pick a restaurant according to their taste. A large food court is conveniently located on the ground level between the Quartz hotel and the New City hospital.

8 RECOVERY BEDS

Patients spend on average between 1 and 2 hours recovering from anesthesia under constant medical supervision. Once recovery is completed, nursing staff will transfer patients to their hospital rooms.

BOOKING PROCESS

All the rooms at the New city Hospital are private and spacious, most rooms have large windows. Thus, you don`t need to make any special requests. Your patient coordinator will always book a single private room for you. It comfortably accommodates one patient and one companion. However, if you are having surgery with a friend or a family member and prefer to share a double room, please make a request with your coordinator accordingly. Such requests are not guaranteed. The hospital will assign a double room if available upon admission. We highly recommend making surgery reservations at least 1.5 – 2 months in advance, in order to be able to choose a date that fits your schedule best.

Please note!

Only adults who are at least 18 years old can accompany patients and stay overnight at the hospital.
Children over the age of 12 can visit patients at the hospital during the day, but are not allowed to stay overnight.
Children under the age of 12 are NOT allowed at the hospital.
Only one companion is allowed to stay overnight.
More than one companion can visit during the day. If traveling with more than one companion, hotel accommodations are available for an extra fee at the Quartz hotel that is conveniently connected to the New City Hospital.

WhatsApp Patient Care groups for communication:

Please download a free WhatsApp application on your cell phone. Create an account with your cell phone number.
You will be added to the New City Hospital Patient Care group, where you will be able to communicate with our on-site team 24 hours a day during your hospital stay.
The group is not private, you will see other patients currently hospitalized communicating with us. Do not hesitate to request help. Our facilitators on duty will respond either to your message on WhatsApp or will come to see you in your room.
If you make a request with our hospital team and provide contact information accordingly, our on-site facilitators will update your family via phone call or WhatsApp or private message once your surgery is over. If your family members wish to communicate with our team 24/7, please make sure they have WhatsApp installed on their cell phones. Also be sure to request with our on-site team for your loved ones to be added to our Family & Friends WhatsApp group (up to 2 family members per patient can be added).

Room amenities:

Nurse Call Button. Simply press the button when you need to call a nurse.

TV Remote Control.

Safety Boxes. Ask our facilitators to show you how to use the safety box in your room and lock your valuables. Neither NEW CITY Hospital nor Go Light Bariatrics takes any responsibility for the patients` or companions` valuables. All rooms can be accessed by other patients and their companions, thus, please utilize safety boxes or store your valuables with your companion.

Items available upon request:

Free of charge: hair dryers, fans, extra blankets, pillows, slippers, towels, etc. (ask your on-site facilitator).
Available for purchase: heating pads – $35 USD.

Walking after surgery is required:

Before you go on your first walk, please call nurse for assistance.
Sit on the edge of the bed, take your time, ensure you do not feel dizzy.
If you feel dizzy, do not walk, you may faint and hurt yourself.

Important benefits of walking as soon as you can after surgery:

Prevents blood clots (pulmonary embolism and DVT).
Promotes faster gas release, thus decreases post-operative pain and pressure.

1st day – day of surgery

You are not allowed to drink anything at all (until you pass a leak test on the 2nd day).

Nevertheless, nurses will provide ice chips to moisten your mouth. For your safety, do not swallow melted ice until you pass the leak test, spit it out in a small tray.
Diligently do your breathing exercises with the help of a spirometer (provided to each patient).

2nd day – day after surgery:

Leak test is usually done during the 8 – 10 am time frame. Once the doctor reviews your leak test results and finds no issues, you will be provided with clear liquids.
You must remain on a clear liquid diet for at least 3 days, the day after surgery is day #1.
Clear liquids available at the hospital include the following: water, ice chips, sugar-free Gatorade, Jell-O, popsicles, apple juice, chicken broth.
Drain tube removal can be scheduled on the 2nd day in the evening or on the day of discharge in the morning. Your patient care physician will determine the right time based on the amount of drainage.

When requesting additional pain killers, anti-nausea medications, and sleeping aid, please note:

Painkillers or gastric strips will not bring relief from pain caused by gas. Only walking as much as possible will help gas to get absorbed into your bloodstream and get exhaled as part of normal breathing process.
Furthermore, the more painkillers you receive (in particular Buprenorphine), the more nausea they will cause.
Of course, anti-nausea medication will help but will not prevent or remove nausea 100%. Thus, the more painkillers – the more nausea, in turn, the more nausea – the more dry-heaving or even vomiting, which can cause a lot of pain. And so, please utilize walking and a spirometer (for breathing exercises) as very important remedies for pain.
Sleeping medication will be provided upon request. Please do not expect sleeping aid to work in the same way for everyone. Some will not be able to sleep through the night, it is normal. For your safety, the doctors will not provide dosage higher than necessary, in order to avoid serious complications such as for a patient to stop breathing in the sleep.
You may request medication to help you relax before being taken to the operation room. Usually, the doctors use Clonazepam drops.

It is strictly prohibited to bring or store the following items in the New City Hospital rooms:

Food, alcohol, cigarettes, flowers, balloons. Smoking is not permitted during hospital stays.

For companions:

A food court with various coffee shops and restaurants is conveniently located on the ground floor in the same building complex between the New City Hospital and the Quartz Hotel. If your companions need assistance, our on-site facilitator will be happy to accompany them to the restaurants of their choice and help place an order.
Also, a large store called LEY (very similar to Walmart) is located right across the street from the hospital/hotel.
ATM machines are available at the LEY store across the street. However, only Mexican currency is available at this ATM machine. There is no ATM at the hotel or at the hospital.

Ordering extra medications:

After the hospital discharge, once you arrive back at the hotel, our hotel facilitating team will help you to place an order with the pharmacy. If you are not staying at the hotel after the hospital discharge, please ask our hospital team to help you purchase extra medications. We recommend waiting until you receive your discharge paperwork that will include a prescription.
