WHEN TO DEPART FROM SAN DIEGO?

Any time between 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – recommended.

• Transportation is provided in the morning only. The medical lane to cross the border opens at 8:00 a.m., pick up from the hotel is normally arranged around 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.; depending on the traffic across the border estimated arrival time at the airport is 9:30 a.m.

• If your departure is later in the afternoon, you will spend extra hours at the airport waiting for your flight. If possible, choose departure time closer to 12:00 p.m. for your own convenience.

Please consider the service below that offers hotel bookings for certain hours of the day (you don`t have to pay for the overnight stay), a good option in case of a late-night departure: https://www.dayuse.com/s/united-states/california/san-diego-county/san-diego

HOW OUR DRIVER WILL IDENTIFY YOU AT THE SAN DIEGO AIRPORT?

About 3 days before your arrival you will receive an email with our detailed transportation information, the name of you driver and his/her contact information. Please have your cell phone on once you have landed, as it will be necessary for our driver to contact you via a text message or a phone call. Wait for the driver outside the baggage claim, on the curb side, with your luggage. You will easily find waiting zones in front of the airport marked with letters A, B, C, D, and so on. Our driver will ask you via a text message or a phone call what zone you are in. As it is not allowed to park in front of the airport for more than 2 minutes, the driver will have to contact you first (text or call you) and then come to pick you up (takes about 10 to 15 minutes). Sometimes it is helpful to describe to the driver what you are wearing, in order for him to easily identify you. The vehicle may or may not have the company blue logo on the front door. Each assigned driver has their patient’s name and contact information on file. Please always be sure to ask if the driver represents Go Light Bariatrics company and that your name matches the name that he/she has on file, to ensure that you are using the correct transportation service. You will cross the border and will be taken to the hospital or the hotel according to the arrangements made for you by our on-site team.

If for any reason you experience a flight delay – please immediately notify your driver, we will appreciate if you also inform your coordinator, or our staff at +1-855-991-5300.

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

Passport book or Passport card – preferred options.

Original Birth Certificate (or its certified copy) + regular DL or ID – acceptable option.

If you applied for a passport but it did not arrive on time, please do not worry. Simply bring your passport application receipt with you along with your DL or a regular ID, if at that time you have a copy of your BC, bring it with you as well. A passport application receipt combined with any state-issued ID will be sufficient for the border police officers.

VISA REQUIREMENTS: NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA

Important! Do I need a visa? The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries (such as Australia and New Zealand, for example) to travel to the United States for tourism or business purposes for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. VWP travelers are required to apply for authorization though the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), are screened at their port of entry into the United States, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program.

It will take less than 30 minutes to complete the form. You will need to provide your passport details, personal information and answer the eligibility criteria questions. It is advised that the application is made at least 72 hours before the person is due to travel to the US. This is because the processing time could be delayed, this has happened before where the system has crashed, and travelers were unable to take their intended flights.

As well as having a valid passport, applicants need to have a valid email address for correspondence regarding the application and a payment card to use for the payment of the application fee. Apply online at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta

    • Best Western Yacht Harbor Hotel
    • Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island
    • Holiday Inn Express Downtown San Diego

    Budget hotel options:

    • Ramada By Wyndham San Diego Airport
    • Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside

Please note that free airport shuttle service may not be available during late evening hours or very early morning hours, and some hotels have temporarily or permanently suspended this service during COVID-19 pandemic. PACKING LIST

Please pack light, often hand luggage is sufficient. Pay attention to airline luggage policy: often budget airlines have additional fees for hand luggage or checked luggage, also weight limits. Keep in mind that you should not lift anything heavier than 10-15 pounds during the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. Bring luggage on wheels, ask for assistance at the airport or on the plane.

If you are taking prescription medications: please have all your prescription medications that you need to take daily in their original bottles, do not bring them in a pill dispenser. The bottles must have the name of the medication on them as well as your personal name, and bring only the number of pills sufficient to cover your trip (your stay in Mexico + travel time), not more than that. If you bring more pills than needed for your stay, our on-site team will ask you to discard the remaining ones (especially if they are controlled medications such as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, ADD/ADHD medication) before heading toward the border, and the border police officer may send you into a secondary inspection.

    ESSENTIAL ITEMS

    • Clean T-shirts to change daily during recovery; sweat pants, very comfortable loose shoes / sneakers / flip flops. Your body will be swollen after surgery due to intense hydration; you should not wear anything tight.
    • Heating pad. If you do not bring your own heating pad, you will be able to purchase one at the hospital for a fee of $30 USD. Heating pads help with gas pain and general discomfort after surgery.
    • A sweater or a jacket are necessary during cooler times of the year from November until April.
    • Pajamas (especially pajamas pants, as the hospital robes sometimes leave your back uncovered).
    • Warm socks, can be slippery resistant for walking hospital halls.
    • Phone/Tablet charger
    • Chapstick for dry lips

    OPTIONAL ITEMS

    • Extension cord for your electronic devices (6-feet cord will be sufficient). Outlets in Mexico are the same as in the US and Canada. Australian and NZ patients need to use a convertor for their electronic appliances as the outlets in NZ and Australia are different. You may also ask our hospital facilitator for an extension cord upon arrival at the hospital.
    • Biotene mouth spray may help you feel more comfortable, since you won’t be allowed to drink fluids until the leak test is passed (that is on the following day).
    • Small US dollar bills if you wish to leave tips or buy souvenirs. There is no need to exchange US Dollars into Mexican pesos.
    • Ear plugs for noise cancellation
    • Slippers
    • Toiletries, hand sanitizer
