SURGERY PACKAGE PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Airfare
- Cafeteria/food for your guest
- Rapid Antigen Test if done on-site at a lab or using hospital testing kit (from $30 USD to $40 fee applies). This test is required only if a patient or companion has cold-like symptoms.

UNDERSTANDING POSSIBLE EXTRA COSTS
All costs are quoted in US dollars
We do not anticipate any additional costs. However, every patient is different, and depending on your surgery type (revision surgeries in particular), overall health status, pre-existing health conditions, or travel arrangements, certain additional expenses may apply. Please discuss with your patient coordinator your specific situation. Below we provide a list of possible extra expenses, some of which are very rare.
Most common additional expenses:
- $500 High BMI > 55 (for Body Mass Index from 55 to 64.9)
- $1,000 High BMI > 65 (for Body Mass Index of 65 and over)
- $300 Hiatal Hernia Repair (if diagnosed prior or during surgery, it must be repaired, and this additional cost will apply). A photo or video proof of the hiatal hernia repair will be provided. Payment must be made before hospital discharge.
- $500 Gallbladder removal (when requested prior to surgery in writing)
- $100 or more – extra blood thinning medication for patients with high blood clot risk (patients with prior or family history of blood clots, patients with high BMI or long flights, car rides after surgery, might need additional blood clot preventive medication to be used after the hospital discharge). Every surgery package includes standard blood thinners administered at the hospital, extra medication is sometimes prescribed and has an additional
- $80 – $100 Pathology test. A pathology test for malignant tissue, H. Pylori infection or other reasons is recommended in case stomach polyps, tumors or other suspicious tissues are discovered during surgery.
- $30-$120 Additional medications. We recommend purchasing extra antacids and painkillers in Mexico before going home (1 pack of each will be provided by the hospital to cover your needs during your post-op hotel stay). Anti-acids are required during at least two months post-op, thus purchasing them at a lower cost in Mexico is recommended. Additional medications may be prescribed by the medical team based on your personal needs upon hospital discharge.
- $35 Heating pad, available for purchase at the hospital.
- $60 Massage therapy (tip is not included). If you or your companion (or both at the same time) wish to have a professional massage in your hotel room before or after surgery, this cost will apply per 1-hour massage. You may request massage therapy with your on-site hotel coordinator upon arrival at the hotel.
- $60-80 Guided tour (souvenir shopping or to the local beach). If you or your companion wish to have a guided tour before or after surgery, you may inquire about availability with your on-site hotel coordinator upon arrival at the hotel.
- 100% refundable hotel security deposit. $100 – 200 USD “per stay” security deposit is required upon check in at the hotel. Unless a guest makes additional purchases and charges them toward the room, it is 100% refundable upon check out. This deposit must be paid with credit card (VISA or Master Card), or with debit card. Cash is not accepted. Discover and AMEX cards are not accepted.
- $100 multiple surgery date changes. If you secure your surgery reservation with a deposit, you can change the date two times at no additional cost. If later you request to change your surgery date more than twice, a fee of $100 USD will apply to each new surgery date change, must be paid before the new date is confirmed. This fee is non-refundable in case of a surgery cancellation.
- $132 including tax per night (2024 hotel rate, subject to change) if you require additional hotel stay (2 hotel nights are included in gastric sleeve surgery packages, 3 hotel nights are included in RNY or Mini bypass or SADI-S surgery packages). If a companion does not wish to stay at the hospital with the patient, companions may choose to stay at the hotel. Additional nights have an extra cost of $132 including tax per night, and standard room for 2 adults. All payments are made upon checking in to the hotel directly. All reservations are made by our facilitating team.
Very rare additional expenses:
- $500 to $1,000 if an open revision surgery is necessary. Exact cost to be confirmed by the surgeon during a consultation.
- $1,000.00 patients with HIV or Hepatitis C+ (such surgeries require some of the surgical instruments to be disposed of, thus increasing surgery cost)
- $150.00 CPAP machine rental (the fee is subject to change without prior notice). Patients who develop low oxygen levels during surgery recovery, or for any other reason as determined by the medical team, may require a CPAP machine to maintain the vital signs at the best level possible and ensure faster recovery. If so, it will be rented from the medical equipment rental company and the fee listed above will apply. Patients who have sleep apnea or those who own a CPAP machine for any other reason are recommended to bring their own machine to avoid extra costs. Distilled water is available for purchase at local pharmacies.
- $500+ average cost of blood transfusion for patients with anemia. If a patient arrives for surgery and pre-op blood work shows low hemoglobin levels, in other words iron deficient anemia (less than 11 for a gastric bypass, and less than 10 for a gastric sleeve), surgery will not be possible. Two options will be offered: to return home, have anemia treated for several months, and come back for surgery; or have blood transfusion to raise hemoglobin levels. Blood transfusion cost varies depending on the amount needed, usually the cost does not exceed $1,500 USD.
- $2 per minute. International phone calls from the hotel. While at the hospital calls to the US are available free of charge, hotels do not provide such an option.
- $25 – $35 additional medical pass if requested with our on-site team for faster border crossing (1 medical pass is included in the surgery package).
More than 1 companion? Additional expenses apply:
- $132 including tax per night (2024 hotel rate, subject to change) – separate hotel room for 2 adults (if requested by the patient to accommodate their family) or to accommodate a companion while a patient is at the hospital.
- $48 including tax per night. Hotel fee for more than two guests per room. All rooms are standard and are booked for a patient with one companion. The hotel applies an extra fee for each additional guest staying in the same room ($48 USD per night when 3 guests are sharing one room, or $96 USD per night when 4 guests are sharing the same room.)
- $80 to $160 for additional transportation to/from the airport. One round trip for a patient with 1 companion is included free of charge. An extra fee of $80 USD per ride (or $160 USD per round trip Airport – Hotel – Airport) applies when traveling with more than 1 companion. Children under 12 travel free of charge. Parents are responsible for bringing their own car/booster seats.
- $5 extra protein shakes. Two protein shakes are provided for the pre-op hotel night (in addition to the free liquid diet provided by the hotel), and 1 protein shake with 1 bottle of sugar-free electrolyte fluids are provided during 1 or 2 post-op hotel nights (in addition to the free liquid diet provided by the hotel). Our experience shows that this amount of fluid is sufficient for a patient. However, if you wish to purchase more protein shakes or other fluids (for yourself or your companions) through your on-site hotel coordinator, this additional cost will apply.
MEDICAL COMPLICATION INSURANCE
All surgery packages include medical complication insurance that covers the following:
- Acute surgery complications such as post-operative bleeding, incisional hernia, internal hernia, leak, bowel obstruction, incisional infection that requires surgical intervention.
- Medical complication insurance covers all the complications mentioned above for 30 days post-op on the territory of Mexico only.
- Medical complication insurance does not cover any additional medical expenses that occur outside of Mexico.
- Medical complication insurance does not cover any additional expenses associated with pre-existing conditions such as, for example, iron deficient anemia that requires blood transfusion.
- In case a patient needs to return to Mexico within 30 days post-op for further treatment of the above-mentioned complications, up to $500 flight expenses will be reimbursed, and up to 10 hotel nights (standard room) in Tijuana.
- Transportation from the San Diego Airport to the hospital – Hotel – San Diego Airport is covered.
Medical complication insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions (as an example, anemia upon arrival) or complications caused by the patient`s not following doctor`s pre-op or post-op instructions (as an example, if a patient does not stop smoking/vaping at least 30 days before surgery as required, etc.).
