Bariatric Surgical Center in Tijuana, Mexico
CIBA SURGICAL CENTER
CIBA Bariatric Surgical Center is a modern clinic with a fully-equipped ICU, dedicated to weight loss surgery only. Built in 2020, it is located in downtown Tijuana, Mexico (see the address and contact information below). It takes only 45 minutes to arrive here from the San Diego airport (California), about 10 minutes to the Quartz, Lucerna or Marriott Hotel – recovery facilities (for pre- and post-op surgery stay), and just a few minutes to the famous Revolution Avenue – souvenir shopping place.
Medical Care 24/7
CIBA Hospital provides medical care 24/7: nurses and doctors monitor our patients` health status 24 hours a day. A fully equipped ICU with life support equipment for emergencies is located on the ground floor. The hospital has direct access to the blood bank, where blood undergoes the same strict control standards as in the US. X-Ray and CT scan are available at the Rio Medica clinic located within a 5-minure drive. Rarely used medical equipment is always available at the medical rental company that we work with closely.
Fully Equipped Operation Rooms
CIBA Hospital features three operating rooms with four recovery beds equipped with high-tech intermittent pneumatic compression boots (therapeutic devices used to improve venous circulation during surgery to prevent deep vein postoperative thrombosis), advanced diagnostic equipment including endoscopy and X-ray machines to ensure that bariatric patients will have a thorough radiology post-op checkup for any staple line disruptions. Surgeries are scheduled Monday through Saturday.
On-Site Bilingual Facilitators 24/7
For patients and their family members Go Light Bariatrics provides English speaking on-site facilitators available 24 hours a day. Their responsibilities include assistance to patients with any needs they may have, including English-Spanish interpretation in case of a language barrier that may arise with the hospital nursing staff. Although there is no cafeteria on the premises, our facilitators will help your companion pick a restaurant according to their taste and budget and help them place an order.

We highly recommend making reservations at least 2 months before your preferred date, in order to be able to reserve a private room. Review our Scheduling Process here.
Please note! Only adults can accompany patients. No children under the age of 12 are allowed at the hospital. Only one companion is allowed to stay overnight. More than one companion is allowed to visit during the day.
WE KINDLY ASK YOU TO READ AND COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING HOSPITAL RULES

- You will be added to the CIBA Patient Care group, where you will be able to communicate with our on-site team 24 hours a day during your hospital stay.
- The group is not private, you will see other patients currently hospitalized communicating with us. Do not hesitate to request help. Our facilitators on duty will respond either to your message on WhatsApp or will come to see you in your room.
- If you make a request with our hospital team and provide contact information accordingly, our on-site facilitators will update your family via phone call or private message once your surgery is over. If your family members wish to communicate with our team 24/7, please make sure they have WhatsApp installed on their cell phones and request with our on-site team for them to be added to our Family & Friends WhatsApp group (up to 2 family members can be added).

Items available upon request:
- Free of charge: hair dryers, fans, extra blankets, pillows, slippers, towels, etc. (ask your on-site facilitator).
- Available for purchase: heating pads – $35 USD.
- Before you go on your first walk, please call nurse for assistance.
- Sit on the edge of the bed, take your time, ensure you do not feel dizzy.
- If you feel dizzy, do not walk, you may faint and hurt yourself.
- Prevents blood clots (pulmonary embolism and DVT).
- Promotes faster gas release, thus decreases post-operative pain and pressure.
- You are not allowed to drink anything at all (until you pass a leak test on the 2nd day).
- Ice chips are provided to moisten your mouth. For your safety, do not swallow melted ice, spit it out in a small tray.
- Diligently do your breathing exercises with the help of a spirometer (provided to each patient).
- Leak test is usually done during the 8 – 10 am time frame. Once the doctor reviews your leak test results and finds no issues, you will be provided with clear liquids.
- You are to remain on a clear liquid diet for 3 days, the day after surgery is day #1.
- Clear liquids available at the hospital include the following: water, ice chips, sugar-free Gatorade, Jell-O, popsicles, apple juice, chicken broth.
- Drain tube removal can be scheduled on the 2nd day in the evening or on the day of discharge in the morning. This is determined by your patient care physician based on the amount of drainage.
When requesting additional pain killers, anti-nausea medications, and sleeping aid, please note:
- Painkillers or gastric strips will not bring relief from pain caused by gas. Only walking as much as possible will help gas to get absorbed into your bloodstream and get exhaled as part of normal breathing process.
- The more painkillers you receive (in particular Buprenorphine), the more nausea they will cause.
- Anti-nausea medication will help but will not prevent or remove nausea 100%. The more painkillers – the more nausea, in turn the more nausea – the more dry-heaving or even vomiting, which in turn will cause a lot of pain. Thus, please utilize walking and a spirometer (for breathing exercises) as very important remedies for pain.
- Sleeping medication will be provided upon request. Please do not expect sleeping aid to work in the same way for everyone. Some will not be able to sleep through the night, it is normal. For your safety, the doctors will not provide dosage higher than necessary, in order to avoid serious complications such as for a patient to stop breathing in the sleep.
- You may request medication to help you relax before being taken to the operation room. Usually, Clonazepam drops are used.
It is strictly prohibited to bring or store the following items inside the hospital rooms:
- Food, alcohol, cigarettes, balloons, flowers. Smoking is strictly prohibited during hospital stay.
For companions:
- There is no on-site cafeteria with food available for purchase at the hospital.
- Please feel free to utilize the designated dining area in the hospital lobby.
- You may order food from nearby restaurants using UberEATS (ask our facilitators for help).
- If you wish to dine out, please ask our facilitators for suggestions. The closest cafeteria is located right outside the hospital and is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Ordering extra medications:
- Once you are discharged and are back at the hotel, our hotel facilitating team will help you to place an order with the pharmacy. If you are not staying at the hotel after the hospital discharge, please ask our hospital team to help you purchase extra medications. It is recommended to wait until you receive your discharge paperwork that will include a prescription.
Our medical and facilitating team at Go Light Bariatrics and CIBA Surgical Center wish you a smooth and speedy recovery!
